New website - Foster and Kinship Care study

Deirdre Wilson – Wednesday, July 22, 2015

Websites can be big heavy lifters that parallel your bricks and mortar business or they can be a means of reaching out to a narrow audience with a specific message. They are a tool that can be applied across a broad gamut of needs.    Read More . . .

Show rather than tell

Deirdre Wilson – Tuesday, June 30, 2015

Be still my beating heart! Finally, parking signs redesigned as a timetable. Yes, I know that sounds incredibly dull but they are a perfect case for a graphic representation of the data they are displaying. Of course, there are issues of real estate - text takes up less space.   Read More . . .

How to waste your money or dumb things to get designers to do

Deirdre Wilson – Wednesday, September 24, 2014

Avert your eyes now if you have more money than you know what to do with and are happy to spend it frivolously. This is for anyone working within a budget and looking for ways to stretch that budget as far as possible.    Read More . . .

Storing lemons in your socks is as dumb as data without context

Deirdre Wilson – Wednesday, April 16, 2014

When computers were new and dinosaurs roamed the earth, we used the expression GIGO - garbage in garbage out. It reminded us that computers were only as good as their users. It is time that GIGO came back into regular use. Presenters are plaguing us with pretty looking garbage because they have forgotten about GIGO. We are in an era of style over substance. This problem is aggravated by the multitude of tools now available that create beautiful, or at least pleasing, output of your input. Just look at most collections of infographics to see heaps of GIGO presentations.    Read More . . .

New Pinterest board: Classifications

Deirdre Wilson – Tuesday, February 25, 2014

There is something delightful about having things organised in an orderly manner. We use classifications everyday; you are annoying, he is not. Now we have a Pinterest board for examples of classifications visualised as diagrams. Many if them aren't very pretty but pretty can be applied. Those that have been included are there because they organise something into classes in a way that works diagrammatically.   Read More . . .

New Pinterest board – Cutaways

Deirdre Wilson – Wednesday, February 05, 2014

We have added a new board to our collection of infographics boards on Pinterest. This one is for cutaway diagrams. Not easy to make, these diagram require a lot of solid 3D visualisation skills but now can be constructed using 3D software by building the object from the inside out.   Read More . . .

Our latest website project has launched: WNZ2014

Deirdre Wilson – Monday, December 09, 2013

Last week we went live with a website for the Women's Networking Zone 2014. This website accompanies the event being held in July next year. Flexibility is vital for this website as it has several states of being: prior to the event; during the event; and post event. The requirements for each stage will be different and it will need to keep changing as the event approaches and the it needs to change very quickly while the event is underway.   Read More . . .

Hothouse 'We do it for you' service

David White – Friday, November 01, 2013

Becoming skilled is not about capability, it's about having time to learn. Being efficient at updating your website requires time to be spent learning new software skills. Finding time to learn new skills is stressful.   Read More . . .

A rant on product knowledge

Deirdre Wilson – Wednesday, June 26, 2013

A friend of mine works for a company whose inhouse designers claim they don't need to know anything about the company's products.

I am slack jawed with astonishment.    Read More . . .

One for the rev heads

Deirdre Wilson – Tuesday, June 18, 2013

As a change from producing timetables and road schematics, this week our work provides the backdrop for the Volvo V8 Supercars launch. In the video you will see a couple of media walls with logos on them and name cards for the panel of presenters – all our work.   Read More . . .
